My girls love these treats! At times if my old gal
Daisy is being a little finicky with her food, all I have to do is add these treats to her plate &
poof 💨it’s magically gone! The other gal, Louise will run inside just for them & she loves being outside. If she doesn’t want to come in, I just offer her these treats, & they always do the job! 😜🐾🐾🐶
Our Lab really loved this food! She's a big girl, so the bag didn't last long. We mixed it with her regular food to make it last longer. I like that it's a shelf stable, and raw food. It's made from high quality ingredients, offering an excellent nutritional boost for our dog. I'd love to be able to feed it to her all of the time, but it's too spendy to be our dogs daily diet.
This bag of freeze dried treats are pretty damn good. My dogs absolutely loved them. All you gotta do is pour a little on top of your dog's dog food that it eats already. Make sure you pour some water on top so that the freeze dried food can soak it up and become moist and soft. I put it in a bowl beforehand and soak it in warm water until it gets soggy and then I pour that over top of their original dried dog food and they tear it up within seconds. You can even use these as a treat. Just take some and put in a bowl and pour some water on and let them get soft and give to your dog. These treats are made of beef and also have freeze dried peas in it as well. I highly recommend this food because of its nutritional values, however it does come at a steep price. I think the 32oz bag I got was like 50 dollars. Which will go in a week or less with my dogs. So use sparingly and only as a treat system or as an extra bonus on top of your dog's original food. Don't give them just straight of this stuff. That is unless you want to. It's up to you but for the price tag, I would consider rationing the bag between your dog's or dog. Make it a bonus to them. Other then the price being a bit high, I highly recommend. But would definitely recommend changing the price to something lower then 50 dollars a bag.
My dogs are fed a raw diet so I am always interested in finding freeze dried foods for when we travel.I have never heard of this brand but I love the ingredients and figured why not. I am a 100% happy to see it’s formulated by a vet nutritionist, that makes me feel that my dogs are receiving a nutritionally balanced product.Every dog was very eager to try their serving, and went back to their bowls repeatedly to make sure they hadn’t missed anymore. My biggest complaint is that there are no guidelines for how much water to add. I always add extra water to my pup’s meals so no big deal but for one really should know proper amount.
This review is for both the 16-ounce and 32-ounce Great Joy Freeze Dried Chicken dog food. The packages are different weights but the dog food inside is identical.I have to admit I don't know very much about freeze-dried dog food or raw dog food. Mainly what I know is that my dogs absolutely love this stuff. If you have a picky eater or a dog that needs to gain weight, this Great Joy freeze-dried raw dog food may just be the ticket based on how much my dogs love it. It is fairly expensive so I am using it dry, as a mix-in with their regular dry dog food. I have had trouble getting my dogs on a regular morning/evening eating schedule; they would take a few bites and then walk away without finishing, then want to graze a bit here and there throughout the day. But now that they know they'll get some Great Joy raw freeze-dried bits, they are pawing at their empty bowls first thing every morning, begging for their breakfast. Then they eat all that's in their bowls so it is much easier for me to track the amount each dog has eaten. They repeat this pattern every evening -- and finally my dogs are on a regular feeding schedule!Overall my dogs absolutely love this dog food. I use it dry as a mix-in to supplement their regular food, and I also use it as a high-value training treat -- that how much they love it! I am pleased with the ingredients and quality, and it is wonderful ow much my dogs love it.
Our 5 yr old 90+ lb Rottweiler has a bit of a tender tummy. We make her fresh chicken thighs, steamed carrots and green beans, and it's helped her coat and general health a lot.We picked up this Great Joy Gut Health food to use as treats and as a supplemental boost to her meals. She gobbled it up -- even the peas -- and looked for more. She's not a picky eater, but she clearly really enjoyed these kibble bits. This isn't a product we could afford to give her as her primary meal. One star deducted from my rating because of the high price. The quality ingredients and careful process is a big part of the pricing, I'm sure, but it still seems a bit too pricey.A handful as a treat or topping on her meals is closer to affordable for us. When her tummy acts up, we plan to substitute this food until she's better. She hasn't had enough just yet to know whether it will improve her delicate digestion. I'll update if there's anything remarkable to report later.
The dog would give this 5 stars. I don't know how to rate it due to the price and the fact that it doesn't appear to agree with my dog.The dog was interested in smelling the package, and loved the contents. This food is whole food ingredients, exactly what I would like to feed her. The package says it meets the nutrition levels established by the AAFCO, so it is a veterinarian approved choice. When one moistens it, it smells like beef liver (Beef, beef liver flavor.) No off smells. (It does say not for human consumption. Good to know; I could see someone serving this up for the family.)A serving for an 80 lb dog such as mine is apparently is 4 1/4 cups, so it looks like a 32 oz package might contain 3-4 servings. (I didn't measure.)My interest in freeze dried food was for backpacking. It would probably work for this. Although it is lighter than regular food, it will still take up space in a pack. My dog loved the small chunks dry, so it would also make a very delicious light training treat one can carry easily in a pocket. It would be great for search and rescue, or in an emergency kit. The "best by" date is 9/24/24, so it could last awhile in the bug out bag.I fed some to her wet and mixed it with her regular food. She was very happy with this. This would stretch it some, but this still won't go far for a large dog. I don't actually think I spend this much on my own food. This is one of those "If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it." items.Later note: I have mixed a cup of this with her regular food twice in the morning, several days apart. Each time she has vomited up all her food hours later. A change of food may do this I understand, but this concerns me. I am going to test this food on another dog and give mine a fecal exam. Vet says she is healthy and it is probably the food. Too rich for her blood, or?update: I gave some of this as a training treat for my young dog yesterday. She loved it. There were no adverse consequences. I like that is is dry, light and in small chunks, so it is perfect for training. I just looked a one star review and discovered that this is actually a mix that contains alot of grain including wheat, not simply freeze dried meat as I thought. That might partially explain the vomiting of the older dog? She does not do well with grain or raw meat.Update a year later: This is a great training treat. I have used it with my younger dog, mixed with other treats. This is light, has small dry but not grainy soft chunks you can carry in a pocket. It is just the right size for when multiple treats area being given.
I wish I was wealthy enough to feed this to my dogs for all of time, they LOVED it. Like, loooooved it. I have a 7 yr old foxhound and a 2 yr old blue heeler mix, the second time I served this and she knew what was coming the older one was literally spinning around in anticipation! I haven't seen my sweet girl swing her flubs around like that since she was a young pup!Unfortunately, I had to break their hearts after only 5 days, and that was using it sparingly as a mix in and topper in their meals. You hardly get anything for $40, if I had served the recommended serving size for their weights we would have had 2.5 days of food. On the plus side, the excitement level remained the same when it was given in much smaller quantities. The directions don't specify how much water, but I just mixed in enough to make it all wet without becoming soupy. I'm not sure why i chose to, but for a couple of meals I tossed the mixture in the microwave for 20 seconds, maybe because I wanted them to have an even more mind-blowing sensory experience. They thought they had walked into a michelin star kitchen.Bottom line- if you can swing the funds this is a no brainer. If not, treat your pup and stretch it as long as you can!
At first my puppy wasn’t sure she was gonna try it she smelled then walked away then came back and decided to eat so not real sure if she likes it or not but does continue eating reluctantly
Never have I seen my dog so excited to eat this kibble topper, as soon as I opened it and gave him a little to try he was wagging his tail like crazy and walked to his food bowl to let me know he wanted more.
I mixed this freeze dried dog food with my dog’s regular food and she seems to really like it. She picks out the freeze dried pieces first. It’s convenient and easy to feed her. I do wish it had less added ingredients and more meat though.
tl;dr Contains gluten. Be sure to read and understand the ingredients before giving your pup new food/treats. My dog didn't like these much, but the neighbor's did.My dog wasn't a big fan of these at first and he never really got used to them. I put a few in his food with water and he did eat them somewhat grudgingly. After that he would take them as treats but didn't seem to enjoy them as much as his regular treats. However, and I totally admit this is my fault, there is gluten in this food. It contains something called Kamut, which is a grain called khorasan wheat. Kamut is actually a brand name I was unaware of. My dog is terribly allergic to gluten. He had a really bad reaction with itching constantly, indigestion, red ears and puffy eyes. We figured it out, but we ended up having to take him to the vet and get a special medication called Apoquel to deal with the symptoms. The itching was so bad he was drawing blood. After 3 days without this food the reaction calmed down such that we could stop giving him the medication and he was back to normal. After all that I ran into my neighbor and told him about the experience I had. He indicated that his pups didn't have any food allergies. His pups really liked these treats! In fact, he came over just a few hours later and thanked me with some homemade baked goods, which was very nice. So, I'm going to give these 3/5 stars. My dog didn't really like them too much, but the neighbors dogs did. And as for my mistake with the gluten, it was my fault for not understanding the ingredients and I'm not docking a star for that. However, I believe the Kamut should be labeled as "khorasan wheat" and I'm taking a star away for cost. These are kind of pricey.Edit: I'm adding a start for customer service. After my review the company contacted me! They asked what they could do to "make it right." I declined their offer because everything is fine now and I don't require anything from them, but it was nice to see a responsive company.
I've been using this as a topper to my 9 month old puppies kibble dinner. He absolutely loves it! He seems to have digested it really well, which is always my concern when introducing new food. This is a perfect way to be able to add a nutritious boost to his daily dinner :)
