Every meal is hand-crafted and gently cooked. We cook weekly and keep only a few weeks of inventory in our freezers, so you're receiving really fresh product for your dog's enjoyment.

No. Get Joy's gently cooked fresh meals are fully cooked and ready to serve.
The ingredients are gently cooked during preparation to preserve nutrients while ensuring the food is safe and digestible — so there's no additional cooking required at home. Simply store the meals in the refrigerator, portion the recommended amount, and serve.
Some dog parents like to let the food sit at room temperature for a few minutes or add a splash of warm water to enhance aroma and texture, but that's completely optional.
Gently Cooked Fresh Meals should be kept in the freezer until you're ready to use them — they stay good for up to 16 months frozen.
Move 2–3 days' worth of meals to the refrigerator to thaw. Once thawed, use within 3–4 days. Keep moving meals from freezer to fridge as needed until your next delivery arrives — think of it like meal prepping.

We recommend transitioning gradually over 7–10 days to help your dog's digestive system adjust comfortably. Start by mixing a small amount of Get Joy with your dog's current food and slowly increase each day:
- Days 1–3: 25% Get Joy, 75% current food

My picky eater is very happy with this food.
They send you what they want and charge you what they want. I’ve never received the same package sizes. I ordered 42 individual 110 oz packs and they sent me 16 300oz packs. Then you can’t reach anyone to ask how to ensure getting what I ordered. Dog loves the food but I’m switching to FARMERS DOG. At least I get the same size bag ever time.
Not happy with the new limited sizes of bags which means I have to feed 1.20 bags per day- what a mess. Means setting up 5 days worth of food into Tupperware to make it make more sense and preplanned. Ugh. Also who has freezer space for 4 weeks worth of food at a time. I can fit very little less in my freezer. Not happy with the new plan. Food remains fine.

My dog loves and thrives on the food. I just wish you hadn’t changed the package sizes. We used to get the smallest size and now it’s just messier and more measuring since that size has been eliminated. It’s probably saving some plastic, which is a good thing since my other issue is, I wish things were not packaged in plastic. Would love to see more eco-friendly packaging!
