Beat the Heat During the Dog Days of Summer with These 5 Activities

The summer is an incredible time to get outdoors and enjoy various fun activities, especially with your dog. After all, they want to have some fun too! Of course, you and your dog need to make sure to stay safe in the heat of the summer.

Fortunately, numerous summer activities can be great for cooling off while still having a blast in the dog days of summer (i.e., those hot and humid days of peak summer).

Activities to Cool Off in the Dog Days of Summer

Some delightful activities will help you get out of the heat while still making for a great time with your dog. Here are just a few!

1. Swimming

Number one on the list is, of course, going for a swim. What better way to enjoy the dog days of summer while cooling off in the water? The caveat here is that swimming with your dog depends on whether or not they can swim. Not all dogs are natural born swimmers and some may not enjoy the water. However, this is an excellent activity for those that do.

2. Paddleboarding

If you want an excellent adventure, paddle boarding with your dog is the perfect choice. You can lie down and paddle or stand up while your dog is on the board as well.

3. Take a Break in the Shade

Sometimes, all you need is a bit of time to relax. Take a break from all those activities and relax in the shade under a tree with your dog. This is a great time to get some cuddles in, read a book, or take a little nap, provided it's not too hot in the shade.

4. Make Some Icy Frozen Treats at Home

If you just got home after a long day in the sun or it's too hot out it can be a great time for some frozen treats! There are plenty of excellent recipes out there for “pupcicles” but this one is our go-to!

5. Schedule a Playdate

If you have a friend with a dog, consider scheduling a playdate. This is an easy way for your dog to have a blast with their friend. Additionally, the playdate can start outside at your or your friend’s place and then head in when it gets too hot for some ice-cold drinks for you and the dogs.
