Why The Frenchie Dog is Taking The Crown As America’s Favorite Dog Breed

French Bulldogs have risen to become the most popular dog breed in the United States, according to the American Kennel Club. They collected statistics from 716,500 voluntary dog owners to decipher their admiration. The Frenchie has increased in popularity in the past 10 years with registrations increasing over 1000% from 2012 to 2022.

With Frenchie’s stocky build, furrowed brow, and lovable, squishy faces, they have captured the hearts of many Americans. But what has made this breed so beloved? Let’s delve into their history and why they’ve become an American favorite.

History and Popularity Of The Frenchie Dog

The French Bulldog was created in 19th-century England. They were initially bred to become miniature versions of the English bulldog, with the goal of developing a companion dog small enough for indoors. Making their way to France, the breed quickly grew in popularity and became a fashionable breed amongst writers, artists, and designers in the 1800s. Eventually, the breed was imported to the United States where its popularity stuck with wealthy Americans. Since then, the French Bulldog’s popularity has continued to grow around the world.

Their popularity, however, is not unfounded. Here are some factors that have contributed to their popularity.

Family-Friendly

French Bulldogs are wonderful family dogs that get along well with children and other pets. Their smaller size makes them better suited to have around the house than other breeds. Frenchies are extremely loveable with playful personalities that make them excellent companions.

Low-Maintenance

French Bulldogs are very low-maintenance by nature compared to other breeds. Their medium-fine coat keeps them from requiring being shampooed or brushed too often. Additionally, they do not require lots of exercise which makes them plenty joyful to remain inside with their owners.

Affectionate

Frenchies are known to be an incredibly affectionate breed. Their gentle and sensitive characteristics make them attentive to their owner’s needs. They thrive on human interaction and love nothing more than to cuddle with their favorite person.
