Honor Your Loyal Companion on August 26th for National Dog Day!
The best day of the year is this month—what day are we speaking of? Why, it’s National Dog Day, of course!
Whether you’re new to dog ownership or you’ve celebrated for years, this annual holiday is a fun way to show your dog how much you love them and how important they are to your family.
Let’s explore the origin of National Dog Day and how you can celebrate this year with your dog.
When is National Dog Day?
Since 2004, National Dog Day has been celebrated on August 26th and strives to honor these important family members who provide comfort, joy, and happiness to people’s lives. It was founded by dog owner and animal rescue advocate Colleen Paige.
National Dog Day's primary mission is to shed light and bring attention to the number of dogs across the country who need to be rescued. It encourages ownership of dogs of all breeds (purebred and mixed) and celebrates the hard work that working dogs perform daily.
From personal protection dogs to law enforcement companions, working dogs face risky and often dangerous situations. That’s why they deserve our support and respect.
How to Celebrate National Dog Day 2024
Now that we know the purpose and mission of National Dog Day, it’s time to think of some ways to make it special for your dog. Here’s how to celebrate National Dog’s Day this summer with your loyal companion.
Go on an Adventure
Cool off at a local park (or build your own waterpark at home!) for some beneficial exercise for your dog. Spending time outdoors together will solidify your bond. Although your dog can’t talk, you probably know the activities he likes best.
Take him to a local dog beach or his favorite hiking trail. Put your phone away and enjoy focused time with your dog on his special day. Or, head to a local brewery and let him socialize with all the other local dogs and puppies.
Share a Treat
What better way to end the day than with a delicious treat for your dog? Feed your pup one of Get Joy’s tasty and nutritious Superfood Beef Treats or a savory Bully Stick to show them how much you care.
Throw a Dog Party
Feeling inspired to celebrate your dog in the best possible way? Plan a dog party and invite your friends and family who have dogs. Bring in treats, organize games, and let the dogs spend an hour or two soaking in all the fun.
